The 492nd Special Operations Wing is a primary support unit of the Air Force Special Operations Command, the Air Force Component of the U.S. Special Operations Command.
The wing is responsible for the training of Air Force special operations forces as well as AFSOC's non-standard aviation program in support of Air Force Special Operations Forces throughout the world.
The 492nd SOW is currently transforming from a training wing into AFSOC’s 5th power projection wing capable of executing SOF strike; SOF mobility; and SOF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

- 492nd Special Operations Training Support Squadron, Hurlburt Field, FL
- 319th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, FL
- 6th Special Operations Squadron, Cannon AFB, NM
- 6th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Cannon AFB, NM
- 17th Special Operations Squadron, Will Rogers Air National Guard Base, OK
The 492nd SOW operates under the Total Force Integration (TFI) concept as strengths of the active duty Air Force, the Air Force Reserve (AFR), Air National Guard (ANG), Department of Defense civilians and contract personnel form an integrated training and education team dedicated to building new Air Commandos. The following AFR and ANG Wings command partner squadrons under the TFI concept with the 492nd SOW:

The 492nd SOW provides mission qualification training in SOF aviation platforms to include AC-130J, U-28, C-146, OA-1K, as well as medical element personnel. In addition to AFSOC personnel, the wing is responsible for educating and training other USSOCOM components and joint / interagency / coalition partners.
